WalkIslay 2010 Islay Walking Week Preview

Some of you might have been waiting for this. At least those of you planning to come to Islay in April for the walking week. The WalkIslay website hasn't been updated as of writing this, but earlier today I've received the programme for this year. After seven years of the Islay Walking Week taking place annually I was wondering if they can still find new walks. The answer?
That's the first week of February already over, time seems to fly this year. Surely can't be long until spring arrives now? The days are certainly getting noticably longer now. Now to this week's Islay blogging roundup, what have the blogs been writing about Islay and Jura this week? Where did Islay and Jura make the headlines?
Dolphins near the Isle of Jura Video

Having just spent most of the evening trying to fix something on my PC (unsucessfully so far) unfortunately there isn't much time left for blogging this evening. Still, there's always time for a quick excursion to Jura to watch a few dolphins near Craighouse: [Watch the video of Dolphins playing next to a boat near Jura in the full entry]

Friday Islay Picture #139 - Sornbank, Bridgend

Last week I promised a picture of Sornbank for this week's Friday Islay picture, a promise I'm going to keep. But before I get to that I'm going to send a huge Congratulations to Inverness and Islay: Islay High has won Best Production at the FilmG Awards! But not only that, they've also won the People's Award! The long journey has come to a very successful end. I'm sure they are having a unbelievably fantastic evening in Inverness now. Hopefully more later. Back to Islay, actually just around the corner from where part of the entry was filmed, to Sornbank: [View this week's Friday Islay picture of Sornbank in the full entry]

Some Islay Whisky Links and News

It's been a while since I last posted an Islay whisky links and news collection I think, quite possibly the Mid November Islay Whisky News were the last ones. So let me see what I can come up with for early February, starting with a few Bruichladdich related links: [Read more about some Islay whisky news and find a few Islay whisky related links in the full entry]

Good Luck Islay High FilmG Team!

Nearly there. It was back in December when I first wrote about the Islay High School FilmG entry, two months later the big day of the FilmG Awards has almost arrived. This evening Andy Wallis and the An Tur (The Tower) FilmG entry team are on their way to Inverness (via Sabhal Mor Ostaig on Skye). Attentive readers might remember that their entry has been nominated in the Best Production Shortlist category. Fingers crossed and good luck to the team for the big event on Friday evening!
Richard Childs' Islay Pictures and Course

Richard Childs moved to the West coast of Scotland (Oban I assume, at least that's where he lives now) after his first visit to the Highlands of Scotland in 2001. He also moved to large format cameras since then. Most important though (well, at least as far as this blog is concerned) he also visits Islay occasionally. I first came across his (Islay) pictures on Flickr: [Read more about Richard Childs' Islay pictures and his upcoming Islay photography workshop tour in the full entry]

My First Islay Picture

Recently I came across an envelope with a few holiday snaps. Not just any holiday snaps though, no, they were the ones from my first visit to Islay in August 1998. I had scanned some, but not all of them, previously. Looking at them again I wondered, which one of these was the first picture I ever took of Islay? I don't have the negatives any more, but luckily there were some (now only faintly visible) numbers printed on the back. After a bit of sorting and some educated guesswork I'm now fairly sure this is my first ever Islay picture: [View my first ever Islay picture and read more about it in the full entry]

Islay Blogging Roundup #109

So there we are, that's January over. OK, still a few hours to go, but by the time many of you will read this it will be February. I haven't spotted any Snowdrops in the Aldermaston Wharf area yet, but Mark Unsworth has posted his first Snowdrops of the year today after taking the picture yesterday. But before I get to the pictures, what else have the blogs been writing about Islay and Jura this week? [Read what the blogs had to say about Islay and Jura this week in the full entry]

A Walk around Kilmeny Guest House, Islay

Most tourist businesses on Islay and in particular the accommodation providers nowadays have a web presence of some kind. Usually a website with information about the accommodation and few pictures of the rooms and may be the area or Islay in general. Margaret Rozga of Kilmeny Guest House near Ballygrant has just added a new means of showing her rooms to interested guests, a video: [Watch the video of Islay's Kilmeny Guest House and discuss if videos make sense in the full entry]
