Kildalton Cross, Davenport, Iowa

Picture of a replica of a Celtic cross

While I'm currently very busy writing the Scotland Summer 2006 travelogue (unfortunately I'm nowhere near Islay yet) I shouldn't neglect this blog too much. You will probably be aware that the original Kildalton Cross is on Islay, but did you know that there are at least two copies of it?

One copy resides in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow (picture on the right), at least it did a few years ago when I last visited the museum.

But there is another copy of it very far away from the Isle of Islay, on the other side of the Atlantic to be precise: The First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, Iowa also has a replica of Kildalton Cross, created by church member Don Hultgren. I remember reading about it in the Ileach a while ago, they also have links to The Round Church in Bowmore, Islay.
