New Islay Ferry Design

Picture of a ferry (Isle of Arran) in the Sound of Islay, the Paps of Jura in the background

The Shipping Times writes about the design for the new Islay ferry, due to come into service in 2010. I've mentioned the ferry tender and new design in the Islay Ferry Route Tender entry back in December. Now some further details have been made available about the new Islay ferry, some of it sounds quite fancy:

The air-conditioned lounges will have varied and flexible seating arrangements, incorporating private drivers lounge, shop and cafeteria facilities. [...] The lower lounge will feature full depth panoramic windows providing a vista aft over and beyond the open part of the vehicle deck.

I think a lot of people would prefer cheaper and more frequent (and faster) journeys, I assume some of them will make their voices heard at the upcoming public meeting on Islay to discuss the ferry design (22/Mar/2007, 18:00hrs, Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle). Some people questioned the amount of money spent on refurbishing the lounge/bar on the Hebridean Isles two years ago, it felt far too fancy for them. I remember wondering what the is point of the probably quite expensive flat screen monitors showing not much more than the current position on a map? I can look out of the window to see that...
