Islay House for Sale

Picture of a large house with two wings in brilliant sunshine

It was during the Islay Walking Week when we walked past Islay House at the end of the Loch to Loch Walk when I first heard the rumour that it was for sale. Yesterday an entry about property on Islay on the Bruichladdich Blog brought it up as well. So I thought I do a little research for more details. Didn't take too long and I found what I was looking for:

Islay House is for sale with an asking price in excess of £2,250,000 (Freehold). Unfortunately my savings don't go anywhere near that and I think 24 bedrooms are a good 20 more than I'd ever need, so I think I'll have to give this opportunity a miss. I hope it finds a worthy buyer, someone who will give something to the community, as Captain Tom Friedrich (the current owner) does to my knowledge. For example some of the concerts of the Cantilena Festival take place at Islay House.

The Bruichladdich blog suggest one option might be a conversion into a Country House Hotel, something I think we also spoke about when we discussed the rumour in April. But an anonymus commenter suggest this might not be an option as a clause in the sales of the house does not allow it. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens to the house as well as what Tom Friedrich is going to do.
