ForArgyll Awards 2008 - Nominate Today!
Left this a bit late, but then I only noticed this morning that the deadline for nominations is today: The For Argyll website is running an award, To lighten the recession - the ForArgyll Awards 2008. Nominate and vote - FAST, where the deadline for nominations is midnight on the 24th of December. Islay being in Argyll I think Islay should have a strong representation in the awards. Here are my nominations so far:
- Best event: Ian Brooke & all the walks guides for the Islay Walking Week, it just keeps getting better
- Best restaurant: The newcomer of the year, An Taigh Osda in Bruichladdich
- Best visitor attraction: with continuous improvements and something for everyone I think The RSPB : Loch Gruinart is a strong contender
- Best blog: The Islay Birds Blog, an ideal source for information about what's happening with bird- and wildlife on Islay
- Best potential for 2009: I decided to go for the new ‘Islay Hotel’ (name tbd) in Port Ellen. It should open in 2009 and with the enthusiastic team there should be a lot of potential!
If I understand the rules correctly my nominations won't be sufficient, as ‘more than one nomination must be received for a nominee to be entered into competition’, so if you agree with my nominations please go to the Nomination Form and nominate them as well. Or if you have other views nominate your candidates, preferably from Islay obviously ;-)
I'm away to think of a few more, just wanted to get this entry out to get you thinking and nominating.
Update! Some last minute additions:
- Best music and arts organisation The Islay Pipe Band came pretty much out of nothing and has now won several prizes and competitions
- Best Accommodation My favourite self-catering accommodation: Kilchoman House cottages. Brilliant location, excellent cottages and great hosts
- Best community initiative (best area I could find for this) Ian Stuart, Andy Wallis and everyone at Islay High School, they have really put Islay and the school on the education map with all their efforts in the Schools of Excellence and Ambition Programme.
PS: Nominations for ForArgyll Awards - as at 10.00 24th December
