Remember to Vote Islay in the ForArgyll Awards
If you haven't voted for Islay in the ForArgyll.com 2008 Awards yet, there is still some time left. As of writing this there are still just under 36 hours left to vote, so with the good number of contenders from Islay hopefully we can achieve a great result for Islay. According to the latest update about the ForArgyll Awards 2008 there is some fierce voting going on. To make it a bit easier for you here's a list of the categories with Islay contestants in the Vote for Argyll Awards 2008:
- Best Accommodation: Two contestants from Islay, An Taigh Osda and Kilchoman Cottages.
- Best Arts or Music Organisation: Lots of competition for the Islay Black Bottle Pipe Band, so please give them your support
- Best Blog: Well, Islay has already won this, for the simple reason that all 4 are Islay blogs. Ron's Islay Weblog, Brian's thewashingmachinepost, Ian and his contributors' Islay Birds Blog and last but not least this Islay Blog you're reading just now.
- Best Community Event: Has the Walk Islay walking week competing, so please give it your support.
- Best Community Initiative: ‘Ian Stuart, Andy Wallis and the Islay High School’ need your vote here! With their efforts in the Schools of Excellence and Ambition Programme and the Education2020 Unconference they've firmly put Islay on the education map.
- Best Community Website: Again two contenders, Ron's Islay Weblog and to my surprise this blog (again as Islay Blog)
- Best Event: Two Islay contenders again in a very strong field, the Ride of the Falling Rain and the Walk Islay walking week. Please support them against the strong competition!
- Best Individual or Group Achievement: Another strong field with ‘Ian Brooke (6-year Coordinator of Islay Walk)’ walking for Islay
- Best Renewable Energy Initiative: A close race for the Islay Energy Trust against one contender from the mainland.
- Best Restaurant: I suspect this is a tough group, An Taigh Osda is competing for Islay again.
- Best Tourism Website: Another good showing for Islay, Ron's Islay Info and again to my surprise this Islay Blog against one contender from the mainland.
- Best Visitor Attraction: Very tough competition for the RSPB Loch Gruinart, so please make sure to give them your vote.
Note there are other categories, I've only listed the ones with an Islay interest above. For the full list go to the Vote for Argyll Awards 2008 page and select from the list on the right.
Voting closes at midnight on the 31st of December 2008, so get your votes (hopefully Islay votes) in by then. Also don't forget to tell your family and friends to vote, every vote counts. The winners will be announced at 14:00 hrs GMT on the 1st of January 2009. Hopefully with a good result for Islay!
