My Day On Islay

That's my first day on Islay for this year over. While the weather wasn't anywhere near as good as I had hoped it was still a great day. After yesterday evenings brilliant weather it unfortunately deteriorated rapidly and it was a quite stormy and very wet night. Luckily it had calmed down enough this morning to allow me to drive to Portnahaven late morning for a short walk around the village and some seal watching.

Next stop after a nice lunch at an tigh seinnse (Venison burger) was Bruichladdich distillery. Met a lot of people, had a few nice chats and spent quite a bit of money. Among others on a bottle of PC7 (I was recommended to pick the tin with Julie's dad, which I duly did). Then on to Bowmore where I quickly paid my Ileach subscription.

For the afternoon I drove over to Port Ellen and Laphroaig. Some more shopping at Laphroaig and a quick chat with two bikers who had come up from England for a day and Ashley before she heads of to America. Back in Port Ellen I met with Roland who gave me a quick tour of the Islay Hotel and the latest status. While it might not look like a lot of progress from the outside there is actually quite a lot happening inside and excellent progress being made.

The day was finished off with a nice meal at the Port Charlotte Hotel bar and a wee dram of Octomore with my host here at The Monachs. Now it's time to get to bed. Good night.
