Islay Night Sky Revisited

This might sound strange, but in a way I was glad I wasn't on Islay last night. Why? In case you have missed it last night the annual Perseid meteor shower started and ‘stargazers’ were encouraged to twitter their sightings (which I duly did after reading up on it). While I only spotted two and didn't manage any pictures it was still an experience. I happen to know that several people on Islay who wanted to join in had to miss out because the weather didn't cooperate. Fingers crossed it will be more like this tonight (it certainly isn't down here in West Berkshire) for the peak of the meteor shower this night:

Should it clear up over Islay tonight I think it will be a brilliant place to go meteor spotting. There are many more places than down here in the densely populated south without much (or even any at all) artificial light sources, something I've written about twice previously: Darkness And Stars On Islay and Dark Skies on Islay. And what can be better than watching the undisturbed night sky with a wee dram of Islay single malt and spotting a few meteors zooming past?

Fingers crossed it will work out for those on Islay tonight, I can only recommend getting out and giving it a go if you get a chance.
