Islay Blogging Roundup #93

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

At least in the south east of England today was a nice Indian Summer's day, after a very nice week last week Islay wasn't that lucky this week. With September coming to an end soon I'm hoping for a fabulous October, the arrival of the geese and a great autumn. But now back to the blogs, what have they been writing about Islay, Jura and Colonsay over the last week or so?

Let me start with a few blogs I mentioned in the previous roundup, there are further entries on some of them. Dav has now completed his stay at the Bruichladdich Academy and writes about the voyage home and one week on. Angling and Dramming has found some Monster Salmon on the River Laggan. Douglas of Sea kayaking with SeaKayakPhoto.com continued his journey around the north of Islay and on to Oronsay: Caol Isla: whisky, puffers and paps!, Better Days in the Sound of Islay!, Navigation and spice in the Sound of Islay, Just a couple of doors away, on Islay, The great caves of Bagh an Da Dhoruis, Islay, End of the day on Islay and most recently To Oronsay in the sunset.

The Wandering Rose is also on a visit to Islay, starting with some Random musings before writing about Glasgow to Islay, Day 8 (Tuesday) and Islay, days 9 & 10 (Wednesday, Thursday). I'm guessing Islay is still to come on Gary Sutherland's Island Hacking (a summer of golf on Scottish islands), but so far he's had Colonsay calling, Noble Brian swings his big club and A tricky putt (all on Colonsay).

Three guys with their amateur radios also went to Islay to try out VHF and UHF and CW on HF. Not that I have the slightest idea what they're talking about, but I'm sure someone will. From amateur radio to something completely different: Chocolate Mousse & Whisky Layer Cake. You guessed right, the whisky is of course an Islay malt. Which nicely leads me to the whisky:

The Scotch Hobbyist writes Kilchoman comes of age – tasting the Inaugural Release and ‘a drink with forrest’ shows us an impressive collection in Bruichladdich . . .Need i say more?. The Bruichladdich Blog comments on some whisky marketing campaigns in Plumbing the Depths.

In other news the Small Islands Film Festival 2-3 October 2009 comes to Islay. On Ron's Islay Weblog we find the news that Today is not just Another Day about Islay Birding from now on having a perpetual car free day.

The Islay Birds blog has reports of the weather breaking down a bit and lots of waders while George Jackson spotted two White tailed Sea Eagles. The weekly RSPB bird walk brought quite a few sightings while last night coming back from the Curry Night at the Ballygrant Inn they spotted a Barn Owl and a few Hedgehogs. The Islay Birder John Armitage in the meantime wrote about a rather disappointing National Moth Night and a walk on the moor.

Pictures. Nice Islay pictures. Lots of Islay pictures. The Bondbloke this week offered us Lagavulin Reflections on Photogenic Scotland and The Paps of Jura at Sunset on The Sensual Eye. At some point he was Leaving Islay, although I suspect there will be further pictures. Ron has dug out some Old Islay Images and some very nice Rhuvaal and Rhinns of Islay Lighthouse Images, on his own photoblog we find a Sunny Day in Port Charlotte. But there's more…

On Mark Unsworth's Islay Photography Gallery we find Clam Dredging at Barnhill, Jura, Kilchoman Whisky in Bond and a lovely Sunset at Kilchoman. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think my picks of the week are The Paps of Jura from Keills, Isle of Islay and Laphroaig Distillery Office and Warehouse No 1, Isle of Islay.

That's all for this week I think, I'll leave you with the usual reference to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with The Return of Smeatomania. Good night!
