Supporting Cancer Research

Picture of a woman in a blue jacket on a sandy beach

Later this evening I will pour myself a wee dram of Laphroaig Islay single malt, sit down in my favourite chair and have a ‘chat’ with my mother. Not a real chat, that's not possible any more, more the spiritual one. For those not aware, she died in April 2008 after a long fight against pancreatic cancer. Today would have been her 69th birthday, the reason I'm going to have one of those chats and won't blog about Islay today. Instead back to the title of today's entry:

The advances in cancer treatment allowed my mother to survive much longer than we had expected and lead an almost ‘normal’ life until almost the end. So my birthday present to her will be a donation to Cancer Research UK in her memory again. That won't help her any more, but hopefully some other people who receive the dreaded diagnosis. If you've got some money to spare and consider a donation, here are a few charities which could need your help:

This is obviously by no means a complete list, just some I'm aware of. If you prefer a different charity and/or a different cause that's fine as well, people have different priorities and interests. This is just mine today. Thank you for your time and reading this entry, normal Islay blogging will resume tomorrow.
