Islay Blogging Roundup #102

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

This evening I had to make a decision between regular schedule or another jubilee entry. In the end the regular schedule won, so you're going to read the Islay Blogging roundup #102 this evening. The jubilee will have to wait for a day or two, although I'm going to tell you what it is. With that back to the roundup, what have the blogs been writing about Islay and Jura over the last week or so?

Unlike the other roundups which usually finish with the Islay pictures I'm going to start with the pictures this week. Simple reason being that my Islay Pictures photoblog as of today is one year old. I launched it a year ago with Port Ellen, Isle of Islay, today's birthday entry was Swans in Port Ellen, Isle of Islay. That's the jubilee I was talking about.

Another one rapidly approaching its first birthday is Ron's picture blog, this week he had Port Askaig and Sound of Islay and Winter in Port Charlotte among others. Not too far behind is Mark's Islay Photography Gallery, my favourites this week include Last Rays of the Sun, View from the cave and Sunset over the monument.

I've mentioned her earlier this week, Meruby's Photoblog. So far my favourites were A promising day and Boat (4/4) (I assume most know where that is?). The BondBloke had Detritus and Clouds Beyond Port Ellen this week.

Finally Ewan Graham of Islay Photos is back: After a break of several months there are new pictures including this Paps of Jura Panorama 2 and the Finlaggan Standing Stone at Dusk 2 on the blog this week.

I think that's enough pictures, let's move on to the whisky: The Bruichladdich Blog provides us with a Malteaser and mentions a rather strange idea in Frozen Out. The JORNAL DO WHISKY writes about Novo whisky Bruichladdich X4 in a language I'm not sure about. Spanish? Portuguese?

The Kilchoman Second Release is reviewed in the Masters of Malt blog. The Scotch Hobbyist in the meantime reviews one of the Diageo Special Releases 2009, the Caol Ila Unpeated 10 year. The Man from Mosel River says Bowmore – what a lovely whisky. Tim writes about Octomore 2.2 - Pictures and (Official) Tasting Notes, although he hasn't tasted it yet.

Day 3 – Islay is a holiday report we find on Sheol’s Weblog. On Ron's Isle of Jura Blog we find news of Possible Cuts in Bus Routes. On his Islay Weblog he gets a bit upset about a Road Maintenance Award for Argyll & Bute Council, which he follows up with A Picture Says More than a Thousand Words. Still, there's also time for Islay Online Christmas Gifts.

In other news ghymoreids_mum has spotted a Haggis at Bruichladdich distillery. Honest!

This week I'm going to finish the roundup with the birdwatching. The Islay Birds blog opened the week with a holiday picture from Gretna Green, a sight you unfortunately don't get on Islay. The latest geese count numbers came through and Ian has thoughts about Dark Skies. John Islay Birder Armitage reports of a good day out geese counting and birdwatching following a first day of geese counting. He also has a few thoughts about Christmas cards!

That's it for today, with just one roundup to go until it's Christmas this year. This roundup was finished with a nice Laphroaig 10yo and some Divine Chocolate. As you will have come to expect the regular reference to the Scottish Roundup, this week with Season of Goodwill? Hah!
