Islay Blogging Roundup #116

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Is it really that late already? Got a bit sidetracked earlier with uploading my daily run plotted with GPS and then researching a few things. Well, better get going then with this week's Islay blogging roundup, what have the blogs been saying about Islay and Jura?

Let me start with two links I just missed last week. Ian Besch writes about red phonebooths, including the one at Carnduncan on Islay. The Ornithological Idiocy writes about a Return to Islay, regular readers will be familiar with this blog. He also has a few Islay Pics (as well as others, not sure where in particular the last one is?).

Speaking of ornithology (isn't that just a fancy word for birdwatching?), the Islay Birds writes about reports from visiting birders and a great day for birdwatching today. There's also a picture of an Iceland Gull. John Islay Birder Armitage is still away west of Inverness near Beauly, where he is impressed by the birdsong.

The Islay Energy Trust blog writes about the Tidal Energy Planned in Pentland Firth and the link to the Sound of Islay. On Ron's Islay Weblog we find Claudio's Islay Images March 2010 and a whole raft of Ileach articles about the Port Ellen situation: Response Alex Salmond over Port Ellen Pier, Islay Ferry Port Ellen - Political Views and Response Ileach Newspaper to Port Ellen Ferry News. Pupils from Islay High went on Adventure & Challenge including the John Muir Award, writes the Instructors' Blog.

No new entries on the Bruichladdich Blog this week, but others compensate for that: Tasty Tasty Whisky: Peat and Bruichladdich, Ardbeg Rollercoaster « Ryan's Ratings, Bruichladdich 3D3 – a tribute to Norrie Campbell :: Whisky Israel are just a few. There's also The Ten Minute Dram with.... Mumford And Sons on caskstrength.net - whisky blog with the revelation that the band's bassist quite likes Caol Ila Islay single malt.

Kind of related although we're now moving to the Islay visits is Jim’s Islay Break by the Whisky Boys. On ‘A Pilgrim's Cairn’ we can read about Hat Fans and on ‘Life and everything’ we find the First Islay dinner, followed by Ardbeg distillery and Laphroig. An upcoming visit to Kilchoman Distillery is mentioned for ‘pigtown fling’.

As usual I close with the pictures: Cygnets « The Sensual Eye, Finlaggan « Big Sky Photos and Bowmore – Once Again « Photogenic Scotland all come from the same photographer. An Islay photographer goes away for some pictures as we can see on Angling and Dramming: Mark Unsworth of Islay Studios Photographs Dovedale. Some of them we also find on Mark's Islay Photography Gallery, but my favourites this week were Snowdrops and Loch Skerrols.

On Ron's Picture Blog we find Kilnaughton Beach and An old barn at Lower Killeyan on the Oa. Ewan Graham posted more pictures on his Islay Photos blog, very nice colours on Kilnave Chapel and Cross as well as Dusk over a Frozen Loch Finlaggan. The ice looks just unreal. A rather surreal picture can be found on Jura Picture of the Day in So, a man called Serge goes to the island…. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for the Horses on an October Morning and Rocks and Waves in Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay.

That should be it. Before I leave you for today there should be the reference to the Scottish Roundup, but then again this week's roundup isn't up yet as of writing this. Good night!
