Three Islay News Links

Islay News in stencil

According to a certain Andrew Marr a lot of my blogging friends (yes, like you, and you, and you also, not to forget you and you) and of course myself are quite likely socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed, young men sitting in their mother's basements and ranting. I guess I'll better leave the reporting of anything Islay related to the professionals then, so here are three links I've come across recently with an Islay connection:

Sunday was the 10th of October 2010. Some people write this as 10.10.10 and quite a few people got married on that day (presumably to make it easier for the husband to remember the anniversary). Turns out the first wedding of the day in the UK took place on, you guessed it, Islay. Herzlichen Glückwunsch an das neue Ehepaar! (They will be able to understand that should they ever come across this blog)

The Royal Mod took place in Caithness recently with quite some success for the MacDonald twins from Port Ellen, of course on Islay. The Oban High School Gaelic Choir won the Donald D McIsaac Memorial Trophy with a bit of help from Islay. Oh, and if you read the report about the wedding above in detail you will find out there's even a link between the two events.

Finally one for the football fans, well, as long as they are a fan of Liverpool FC. The Cumnock Chronicle reports of a Shankly whisky. What does that have to do with Islay? Simple:

The limited edition Islay-made whisky Glen of the Buck will consist of 1892 bottles to coincide with Liverpool FC's establishment and each bottle will come in its very own handmade gift box featuring Bill Shankly's name prominently.

In case you wonder which distillery the whisky is from go to Limited Spirits to read more and find out that it is a Bruichladdich. I suspect they might even be right about this becoming a collectors item, but then again I don't know anything about whisky collecting. I just drink the stuff.

PS: Just for the record, I'll let you judge if I'm socially inadequate, I'm happy with my skin, I'm happily single, my BMI is 22.3, I've got more hair than Andrew Marr, my nose seems perfectly normal to me and I live in a very nice second floor flat overlooking the canal in Aldermaston Wharf. So there.
