Renovating Portnahaven School, Islay

Islay News in stencil

Careful readers might remember a new blog I mentioned in the Islay Blogging Roundup #144 in November. Some of you will be following it already, nevertheless I thought it's worth mentioning it again as well as some related links. It's about a building in Portnahaven on the Rinns of Islay:

The building in questions was included in the Buildings at Risk Register for Scotland, it is (as you will already know from the title of this entry) the former Portnahaven School. A few months ago the building was bought by Ian Henderson Snr and a project was kicked off to restore renovate and convert it into a three bedroom home. His son Ian Jnr is working on documenting the project:

Ian's blog is the appropriately titled Portnahaven Primary School Renovation Project, you can read a bit of background and learn about the progress on it. With the harsh winter weather not much happened the last few weeks, however, Ian has just set up a Flickr account for more pictures. You can find it under iplh's photostream, so far it contains one set, Portnahaven School Clearing.

I hope you find this interesting, I'm certainly looking forward to read about the progress of this project.

PS: Kind of related, I hope there won't be a similar blog/project for Keills Primary: SOS – Save Our School. There are regular updates in the Ileach, one of the most recent ones can be found on Ron's blog at Preparing a strategy to save Keills Primary School.
