Kevin Cutting Peat on Islay
Many will associate peat with whisky, but of course there's more to it. In some places on Islay it is still used for heating and in open fires. To get the peat it needs to be cut, requiring some hard and exhausting work. Yet it looks so easy when you see someone knowing how to do it working on it. Many will know him from Lagavulin and the Lagavulin fund raisers, here is Kevin cutting peat at ‘Arivoulchallum Lotts’ with his sons Graeme and Calum:

If you are thinking about having a go at peat cutting yourself, Rachel is offering a Peat Cutting, Drying & Stacking Workshop. I believe with the exception of a journey back to the croft on the back of trailer full of peat it offers pretty much everything you've seen in the video.
And after all that it's now time for a nice peaty Islay single malt whisky…
