Islay Blogging Roundup #235

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Well then, here it is, the last Islay blogging roundup. For 2012. Don't worry, the Islay blogging roundup will continue in 2013. While I'm using (some) myself I'm concerned about the tendencies of more and more content moving to the walled gardens of the big social networks like Facebook. Keeping independent blogs and websites is an important counterpart to keep the web alive. So lets keep sharing the great work done in so many places on the web. On that note, this week's Islay, Colonsay and Jura mentions in the blogs (admittedly a quiet week):

Not strictly speaking a blog, but as Twitter went wild with it this afternoon (UK time), CBS Sunday morning has a post The secret of Scotland's Islay malt whiskys.

Over on the Island at the Edge we can read about Christmas on Colonsay…. On a sadder note but also related to Christmas the Ray City History blog writes about Islay Remembered Otranto Soldiers at Christmas Time. You can also read about The American Red Cross and the Otranto Rescue.

Ian Buxton writes about Eating on Islay - Distillery Style on The Whiskey Word. Eläväpullo from Finland tastes the Kilchoman Inaugural 100 % Islay, 50 %, followed by the Kilchoman Single Cask no. 98, 60,2 %. A Dram Good Time tastes an older whisky, the Laphroaig Cask Strength 10 Year Old Review (2007). The Top Hatter from Germany shows off his Christmas present, Neu aus der "Herrenparfümabteilung": Bruichladdich "The Laddie Ten" Single Malt Whisky. On Tumblr The Life of a Whiskey Drinker answered the question What's your favorite Islay whisky and why? A Japanese blog mentions the Isle of Jura 1984.

On 21c Scotland we can read Day 3: March 2012 Highlight – Islay in a review of the year for a tourist guide.

While slightly reduced there was still some birdwatching over Christmas, as reported by the Islay birds blog: An early entry on Christmas Day with sightings by Tom and Jo, the return of the Fulmars and more sightings from Tom and Jo and a Hen Harrier watched from a cottage were some of the entries this week. Tom and Jo also mention their visit again on their own blog in Christmas visit to Islay.

Not many pictures this week on the blogs either, although at least Mark Unsworth posted his Image of the week, a view looking towards Killinallan from the dunes at Ardnave. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for Arrival in Machir Bay, Lagavulin Distillery from a Speedboat and April Evening at Laphroaig Distillery, Isle of Islay.

That's it for this week. And this year. More next year. Good night.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
