Islay Blogging Roundup #238

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

After two mild days the snow in West Berkshire is all gone (to be replaced by lots of mud on the towpath at the canal), various Islay ferries have been cancelled or at least diverted due to ‘adverse weather’, back to normal winter weather in other words. With weather discussed it's time for the Islay, Jura and Colonsay mentions in the blogs this week:

On the Singapore Whisky Blog we find The Duty Free Chronicles - Two New Islay Whiskies. I think I've had an Icelandic blog once or twice before, Hanastél: Gylfagin is about The Botanist Gin of Bruichladdich. I wasn't sure whether to mention this under visits or whisky, in the end I decided In Scotland, whisky is spelled with a ‘y’ should be here. The Bruichladdich News blog mentions a debate about Malt Whisky and Place

On Wombat's Whisky Review we find a review of Big Peat. Whisky and Writing tried the Bruichladdich 10 Year Old and quite likes it. Gordon brings us the Islay Whisky Classics No.63 – Connoisseurs Choice 1979 Ardbeg

On Am Bothan we can read about geology and toiseach toiseachaidh ùr {new beginning}. On Port Ellen Primary's Our Learning Blog we can read about A Visit From Mr Brazier! and MR BRAZIERS VISIT TO P5. We can also read about The Feis. Ron writes about Four Recently Added Islay Accommodations.

Fru W from Sweden has another update on her quest to move to Islay: Augusti! The Taj Mahal in Bowmore made it into a curry restaurant blog with From Our Foreign Curryspondent ... Dateline: Islay! Looking back a long time is Jenn in Raise a wee dram of the amber. Sea Kayak Oban brings us Islay Sea Kayaking Courses for 2013 and And then the wind turned South Easterly, on Islay

Postcards From The Edge has a few Islay, Jura and Colonsay related entries: PORT CHARLOTTE, PORTNAHAVEN AND PORT WEMYSS, MACHIR BAY AND KILCHIARAN BAY, LOCH GRUINART, PORT ASKAIG, JURA and COLONSAY AND ORONSAY are the entries so far.

Wildlife and birdwatching: The Islay Birds blog brings us 10 Blackbirds on a rainy day, bird count numbers from Loch Indaal and on a wet Burns Night more bird count numbers. The INHT blog brings us some Snowdrops - Port Charlotte, points out some Poor forestry practice and shows some Snow on the hills.

The pictures: Michael Russell has been back to Islay again and twittered and blogged a few nice pictures, including January Morning, Islay and Here for a meeting - honest! Mark Unsworth unfortunately hasn't posted his picture yet, hopefully there will be one again next week. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for Talking with Birds on Jura, Border Collie on a Foggy Beach and Hare at Ardnave, Isle of Islay.

And that's all I've got for today. As usual the link to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with Politics, Pranksters and Photographs. More Islay blogging next week.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
