Islay Blogging Roundup #274

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

It's been a rather windy weekend on Islay, I also heard of a power cut on Islay and Jura because of a burning pole. In West Berkshire it's been pretty grey and rather wet most of the weekend. On that note over to the Islay mentions on the blogs this week:

The big event this weekend was of course the visit of the Reindeer, mentioned by a number of blogs. Ron posted Pictures of Santa Claus Parade on Islay, the Dower House had Reindeer bring Santa to Islay! and the Port Ellen Primary blog wrote Santa Comes To Bowmore!!! Even the Islay Birds blog mentions the Reindeer.

A few Islay whisky posts: Whisky and Wisdom has Ardbeg Day 2013 - Ardbog! while Whisky Empirically goes Port Choco-lotte: Port Charlotte 10yo. With a rather long title Master Quill writes Bowmore Week – Day 2: Bowmore 14yo 1998/2013 (46%, Cadenhead, Small Batch, Bourbon Hogsheads, 792 bottles). The Bruichladdich news blog announces that Alastair McIndeor Retires. The Malt Impostor shares The Kilchoman 2007 Vintage (30 ml peaty smelling salts bottle) and The Laphroiag 18 (750 ml old school bottle of refinement).

On to the visits: Beer and Baking continues with Islay Part 2: The Distillery Tour. Hugh Miles look back at his year including a visit to Islay in Going Wild. Jen shares two posts, 14th post for 2013: Islay & Jura: not wildlife (wildlife will be 14.5th post) and 14.5th post for 2013: Islay & Jura: wildlife

Ron tells his readers to Buy Your Christmas Presents on Islay. Keeping with Christmas, the Our Learning Blog of Port Ellen Primary writes about Pantomime Time!, some good news after the earlier Greenhouse Disaster. At the Dower House we read about Gutters and chimneys! Gordon is first off the mark with his 2013 review, That was the Year that was……. A Review !

The birdwatching and wildlife, starting with the ever reliable Islay Birds blog. In addition to the Reindeer it mentions a raptor day and shares Mary's sightings from Ardnave. The INHT blog shares a few pictures by Colin Bradshaw on Islay and mentions Gorse in winter. John Armitage returns to Catch up! The RSPB blog says Goodbye to all that for Richard, who earlier wrote Islay 1 - Ardnave on his own blog. There's also The view from the afternoon on the RSPB blog and we can learn about A spruced up sluice gate.

And finally the pictures. Ron shares 40 years of Holidays on Islay with pictures by the MacFarlanes. On the RSPB blog we find Dawn, Loch Gruinart, Isle of Islay. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Night sky over the Saligo Bay dunes, October sunset with passing Geese and the Big cliffs near Sanaigmore, Isle of Islay.

And that's it for this week. Good night!

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
