Islay Blogging Roundup #299

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Almost there. The next roundup will be the 300th edition, if all goes to plan next Sunday. Apart from that, the recovery from my leg injury continues, did a few more full runs this week, followed by rest days with walking only. Continue to feel better, but I think it will at least be another 2-3 weeks until I'm happy. But enough of that, back to the roundup and what the blogs have been saying about Islay this week:

A few Islay whisky posts: The Whisky Ledger had a Laphroaig PX Cask.. or is it? (you'll have to read to find out, not giving it away here) and Sisco writes about an Islay whisky featuring in the film Constantine (2005). The Bruichladdich news blog writes about Natural Wine Marries Natural Whisky. Fredde tastes the SMWS 3.194 “Surf and Turf BBQ” 58,3% (Bowmore)

Gordon continues his reports from his Islay visits with Islay Visit Part XXXVII The Second Instalment!, The continuing Islay Visit Part XXXVII and Islay Visits PartXXXVII – Now where were we? Somehow missed this last week, Ian and Madge have Thurs 17th July – Isle of Islay. In Wednesday Nina mentions a rather expensive souvenir she's now using. Elena writes about her cycling holiday including a visit to Islay in Scotch Whisky! Douglas (who is also a birdwatcher, so it's an early birdwatching link) spent a holiday on Islay & Jura.

Ron writes about the Big Strand and A Stunning Kintra Sunset. Two former Bowmore stills who made their way from Islay to Canada get a mention (with picture) in Day 53 - Wednesday, July 24 - Ceididh Trail.

Of course there was birdwatching and wildlife: On the Islay Birds blog we find Jonny's sightings, Swallows, Cuckoos and Pheasants and Janice and Tim's sightings. On the INHT blog read about Kilnaughton flora and hoverflies, the Geology Ramble - Kilchiaran 20th July and a Swallow-tailed Moth. On the RSPB Islay blog the Butterflies abound…, there was The Wee Bee Hunt and a Grayling, Isle of Islay. Jim of nibirds (Northern Ireland birders) is looking at an Islay Boat Trip from Ballycastle in August.

The pictures: Ron has a spring view of Portnahaven. Chris Townsend digs out some older pictures of The Paps of Jura. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Going surfing in the evening sun, Port Ellen distillery warehouses and maltings and Lagavulin distillery in the mild evening light, Isle of Islay.

That's all I've got for this week, I hope you found something interesting. Good night for now, more next week.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
