Islay Blogging Roundup #308

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Time is flying, we're already in October now, time for the first Islay blogging roundup in October 2014. Didn't get round to blogging yesterday, I got back home too late after an afternoon and evening out taking pictures of the landscape in the beautiful light and the blue hour followed by some of trees under a starry night sky. But now back to this week's Islay blogging roundup:

Let's start with some Islay whisky again: A German blog reports from the 41. Whiskytasting von Munich Spirits – Torf – Rauch – Islay. The Edinburgh whisky blog had One good look at Caol Ila. Fredde from Sweden tastes the Laphroaig 11 y.o 46% Hepburn’s Choice. Of course the man with the annoying opinions has even more, this week we've got some about the Laphroaig Cairdeas 2014 and the Bowmore 10, Devil’s Casks, 1st Ed.. From Germany a report about Die Wucht im Glas: Kilchoman European Road Tour. The Bruichladdich News blog reports of a Record Islay Barley Harvest In 2014.

On to the visits (including distillery visits), where this week Johnnie Does Caol Ila. Having completed their visits of the southern distilleries the Romanian blogger continues to Bowmore Distillery. FoodFlash has been on A Tour of Islay by Whisky. Whisky Experts announce their Whiskyexperts Leserreise 2015: Kilchoman. Irish Roots. Wiege des schottischen Whiskys?

As a former Islay resident Ian is writing about a New Start on the mainland. At the same time Ron announces that he and his family are Making the move to Islay. Some very interesting updates from the Islay Energy Trust, showing Firm foundations… and Today’s picture…. On the GLM (architects/consultants) company blog we can read about Three Hotels…Three Islands, one of which will be on Islay.

Of course there was birdwatching and wildlife, starting with the Islay Birds blog: Ian reports Bob's sightings from a windy Islay, there are also Jim's sightings and the September rainfall (or lack thereof) and more bird sightings. On the INHT blog Malcom informs us This moth uses a calendar! while on the RSPB Islay blog Emily reports an Invasion! and writes about the Humble Bumblebee's.

To finish of course the pictures: Having returned from Islay the smallholders follow up with some Textures of Islay while James Collett returns with Rocks At Lossit Bay, Islay`and Ron has a rainbow over the Paps of Jura. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked the Steep cliffs along the Sound of Islay, Port Ellen lighthouse on a cloudy day and the Cliffs around Soldier’s Rock, Isle of Islay.

And one more thing: As mentioned last week Teresa is back on Islay and has already posted some stunning pictures on her Islay Wildscapes blog. I can't link to them all, so I've picked Rutting Red Deer Stag, Jura, Wild Goat Kid, Jura, Weather Front over Killinallan, Islay Lifeboat Port Askaig Out on a Shout, Submarine, Caol Ila Sound of Islay (a Norwegian visitor) and Holly Tree Inver. But please also visit the blog to see the others.

Now that's really all for this week, more Islay blogging next week.
