Islay Blogging Roundup #328

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

September and with it autumn have arrived. Last night the temperature went down to 5°C in Aldermaston Wharf, certainly getting colder. The day today turned out unexpectedly sunny and mild though, so I went for a nice walk locally, among other things taking pictures of Sunflowers in September. And now I'm going to try to get together another Islay blogging roundup:

Dave of @MeasureOfWhisky got in touch last time, pointing out he's writing up his trip report from a visit to Islay including Trip Report: Islay 2014, part 2 – Springbank and Islay arrival, Trip Report: Islay 2014, part 3 – Bruichladdich and Bowmore and Trip Report: Islay 2014, part 4 – Kilchoman, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain.

On Thursday I of course wasn't the only one attending #LaddieMP2 live from Islay. Rainer and Sabine from Germany who now run a B&B on Islay also attended and write about it in Bruichladdich: #LaddieMP2 Live Tasting From The Distillery. You can also read their Tasting Notes: Port Charlotte Valinch 05 BOGHA DROCHAIDE if you're interested. One of the whiskies we tasted on Thursday was a 23yo, the Alkoblog from Germany switches those numbers around for something even older: Für ein paar Dollar mehr: Laphroaig 32 Jahre im Test.

A bit of Islay down under: Laphroaig-gasm! An epic evening with John Campbell.

On the seadogrides Russell finishes after Route Maps to Islay and Portanhaven and pictures from the distilleries ride with Port Charlotte to Port Ellen and then Ballycastle – Northern Ireland.

Ron writes about Islay Skerries SAC - A Must do Trip on Islay. On Port Ellen Primary's Our Learning Blog we learn about P3/4 walk a mile walk and are introduced to The New Primary 1s.

Birdwatching and wildlife: Not fully an Islay post, but as he's a regular visitor and Islay gets a mention I thought I should link to Guest blog – Photographing Hen Harriers by Gordon Yates on Mark Avery's blog. On the Islay Birds blog a report from the Islay stand at the birdfair, a picture of a Rose Coloured Starling and Gary's sightings from the Frenchman's Rocks. The INHT blog went Investigating the Port Askaig Tillites and later found Many Scorpions and not so many Dragons!

For the pictures I'll start with a Swallow doodle from Chloe (she misses her Islay holiday! and also has some sketches in A bit more Islay holiday!!). From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Loch Indaal lighthouse from the air and Incoming tide in Saligo Bay, Isle of Islay.

With that I'll finish for tonight, time to get to bed, a busy week ahead.

Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
