Port Charlotte Single Malt Whisky

Picture of a whisky bottle and packaging

Unfortunately I can't afford it for the time being, but otherwise I probably couldn't resist the Port Charlotte PC 5 Evolution Islay Single Malt whisky. I hope there will be some left when I get the chance to try and/or buy some.

This whisky is the first new release by Bruichladdich Distillery distilled since it reopened in 2001. I've written about Bruichladdich reopening and progressing over the years here.

While distilled in Bruichladdich this whisky was matured in Port Charlotte, using the remaining old warehouse of the defunct Port Charlotte distillery. Experts including the only surviving person who has tasted the original Port Charlotte whisky, Ruaridh McLeod, say that this very peaty whisky tastes very much like the old Port Charlotte whisky.

This first release is four times oversubsribed, I guess I'll just have to wait for my Octomore, which will be bottled in 2010 earliest. I own Octomore futures, so I should get some of that whisky...
