Islay's CyberCafe (Internet Cafe)

When I wrote about Islay's schools and related blogs recently Jonneke from Stroobos in the Netherlands wrote me a note, suggesting I should also mention the CyberCafe in Port Ellen. After all it's mostly run by the local youth. Also keeping in mind it's the only internet cafe on Islay I'm more than happy to oblige:

To give it its official name, The MacTaggart Community Cybercafé at 30 Mansefield Place in Port Ellen, Islay. From the ferry terminal walk along Frederick Crescent, just past the Co-op turn left into Mansfield Road. At the first junction turn right, you should then see it on the left hand side.

I remember visiting it during my first visit to Islay back in 1998, which must have been just after it opened (it opened on the 6th of August 1998, according to their website). I haven't used it much recently, but I certainly keep in mind should I need to access the interweb while I'm on Islay. I generally now try to stay away from my laptop (and other computers) as much as possible during my holidays, only switching it on to download the pictures from my camera.

Finally it's worth mentioning that the CyberCafe is also home to Jim's Wee Studio, a good address for art and bicycle repairs (yes, you read that right).
