Islay Golf Links
The title of this entry in a way has a double meaning: I'm going to give you a few interesting links to other websites about golf on Islay. At the same time the Islay Golf course is a Links golf course. So Islay Golf Links means links to pages about golf links. Here are a few I found over the last few weeks:
- An overview of the Machrie Golf Links on the Top 100 Golf Courses of the British Isles. It is rated 18th in Scotland and 62nd in the UK.
- This one is taking us back in time quite a bit: TeeTime Scotland writes about an Islay open tournament in June 1901. Also two pictures from around that time.
- Want to take a look at every single hole of the Machrie golf links course? Someone with the username ‘syd71’ posted several views of all the 18 holes of the course.
- You'd like a few more pictures? OK then, Hidden Links has a descriptions and a few pictures of The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links, Islay.
- If you're planning to bring your non-golfing partner you might want to hide The course of true love from them. Mrs Moneypenny wasn't convinced. Your partners mileage might vary though.
- Here's a recommendation some people might like: Mixing golf and whisky into a perfect blend, also including Islay for obvious reasons. Visiting Islay only on a daylong air excursion from Glasgow I believe to be wrong though, you'll need at least one night on Islay.
- And finally: I knew of single malt whisky distilleries outside of Scotland in Wales, England, Japan, the US and India. I didn't know that there's at least one in Australia as well, Bakery Hill Distillery. They seem to be a quite active and diverse company, also arranging a tour to the homeland of whisky and golf (incl a visit to Islay): 13 Distilleries and 3 Golf Courses in 19 days, just heaven.
As regular readers will know I don't play golf myself, but I can certainly appreciate other peoples interest in golf. So I hope that if you play golf you found this entry interesting and helpful.
