Some Snow on Islay

Down here from where I'm writing this blog the return of winter has just brought cold temperatures and strong (cold) winds. No snow to speak of, although I think there were a few snowflakes for about 10 seconds yesterday. Islay doesn't usually get much snow either being an island close to the warm gulf stream, but as these pictures show there has been quite a bit on Islay yesterday morning:

The pictures were taken on the High Road above Islay Airport on Saturday morning. Above the view towards Kintra and the Machrie.

Above the view looking east from the High Road, towards the hills in the east of Islay. I like the dramatic dark clouds above, threatening more to come. Most of it had gone later in the day though.

For those not wanting to build snowmen or play in the snow another attraction had pitched up in Port Ellen: The Screen Machine Mobile Cinema was on Islay Friday and Saturday, leaving for Lochgilphead today or tomorrow. According to the Screenmachine Tour Dates the following movies were shown: I Am Legend, Enchanted and The Golden Compass. Tough competition?
