Islay Blogging Roundup #33

At some point I hope to move the Islay Blogging Roundup back to the Sundays, but at the moment I don't seem to be able to find the time on the Sunday afternoons. Well, let's call it Islay time, in the future I'll either write it Sundays or Mondays. So what have I found over the last week in blog entries mentioning Islay (and Jura)?

Let me start with a few pictures: An interesting view of Finlaggan can be found in this entry on a Brazilian blog, Planeta Ligado!: Islay 1. It seems to be from some photography competition, after a quick search I found the original on Alex Telfer's website.

Michel Schobert visits Islay fairly regularly, on his recently opened Photoblog he has a few Islay pictures: Mystic Forest, Storm Bent, Lonely tree and Running. I suspect there's more to come.

The entry on WOOLLIE WANDERINGS about a Woollie Weekend is really about wandering to the East Neuk of Fife, but at the bottom is a mention of an earlier visit to Islay and sitting on a swing, being able to look over to another country.

With the Islay Festival of Malt and Music less than a week away it's not surprising to find quite a few entries about whisky:

Single Malt Club: Tasting: The Jura Adventure goes through all the Isle of Jura Malts while caskstrength.net gives the Bruichladdich 3D3 a Better Than 3D TV rating. I'm not sure which language this is (I'm guessing Spanish or Portuguese), but despite the English blog name The WhiskyScape Society (TWS) writes about ‘Whisky de Islay’.

Dan from Southwest Ohio in the US gives the Bruichladdich Infinity a very good rating in Sunset & Scottish Whisky. Alltäglicher Wahnsinn: Whisky tasting mentions a favourite whisky from Islay, omits which one it is though. plonkwonk has an entry plonkwonk: islay festival of malt and music, obviously about the festival.

The Bruichladdich Octomore continues to generate some interest: John Hansell writes Bruichladdich’s super-peated “Octomore” is bottled while Whiskymagazin.de takes the news to Germany in Neue Whiskies, andere Neuigkeiten und clevere Schafe auf Islay.

OK, that's enough whisky. How about a bit of languages and literature?

He's not writing it himself, nevertheless there's an interesting update on ‘his’ blog: Iain Banks appearing at 2008 Islay Book Festival. He is also mentioned by IslayIan in Islay Book Festival, Iain Banks and DIVA. In The Gaels, the Poles and the anti Gaelic agenda Islay gets a mention for the Gaelic spoken and taught on Islay.

Last but not least the birdwatching:

As usual the Islay Birds blog has great reports and many sightings: The Osprey spotted last week made a return. There's a lovely picture of a Wood Sandpiper as well as a Mute Swan with her 7 cygnets. Not to forget the first calling Corncrake being heard on the RSPB Oa reserve.

Jeremy Hastings took Mark Hancox out for a Photographer's Special and watched a Pale Bellied Brent arrival and departure.

Ron is still on holiday so there isn't much new really on Ron's Weblog. The same applies to John Armitage's Islay Birder. I'm sure they will have plenty to blog when they return.

That's all I've got this week, as usual the reference to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture, this week with 100,000 go Mad in Manchester. Guess what that is all about...
