More Islay in 1948

Back in March I wrote about a video of Port Wemyss in 1948. The video was only a small part of an original 1.5 hrs long 8mm film of Islay by Duncan Anderson Maclean. A few days ago his son Ian uploaded another video he has compiled, this time he is focusing on Portnahaven:

Watching the video I found it interesting to spot various places in Portnahaven, some quite easily recognisable, others more tricky. One I noticed straight away was the Coastguard tower, presumably in its original use back in 1948. This is now the Four Winds Cottage, available for holiday lets. The views in 1948 were probably almost identical to today, but used in the course of work not pleasure as today.

There are many other places to spot and views to enjoy. There's even a view from either a boat or from Orsay, I'm not entirely sure. Several people are also visible quite clearly, I wonder if anyone knows who they are or if possibly some might even still live in Portnahaven?

Again I'd like to thank Ian for all the work he must have done to convert the film to video and then compiling these short clips. I really like the nice touch he's given the end of the clip. Not giving it away here, you'll have to watch the video to know what I'm talking about.
