Friday Islay Picture (70)

Let me start with the good news: It's Friday evening before a bank holiday weekend (at least in England) and the scaffolding around my house is finally gone. Now the bad news: The recently mentioned Spot the Barrel competition on Islay has been cancelled. On Wednesday Roland Worthington-Eyre sent out an e-mail that not enough tickets had been sold and that after long discussions he had decided to cancel the drop and refund all entry fees (See the Spot The Whisky Barrel website for further details).

This means no barrel will float in the sea near this view, the picture I've selected for this week's Friday Islay picture:

A few blogs have picked up on the cancellation, a rather snide comment (in my view) on the Laddieblog and much more sympathetic view and idea by Ron. Whichever way you look at it a disappointing outcome.

As far as I'm concerned it is now time to move on. There is no point in crying over spilled milk, let Roland and his team refund the fees and then much more importantly focus on completing and opening the Islay Hotel. Which will not be called Islay Hotel for very much longer, as the new name will be revealed on Fri 29/Aug. My guesses of ‘The Oatel’ and ‘Phoenix Hotel’ were as wrong as any of the other guesses, so let's see what it will be...

With that I wish you a great weekend (a great long bank holiday weekend if you live in England or Wales, after all it's not a bank holiday in Scotland and therefore Islay). Hopefully we'll get some nice weather with the end of the summer now approaching.
