Islay Blogging Roundup #72

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Sunday evening, the end of the weekend. I hope you had a good weekend, here in Aldermaston Wharf from where I'm writing this today was a brilliant early spring day. A few weeks ago Ian posted a picture of a Mute Swan taking a dislike to 2 Whooper Swans, when I went to The Vyne this afternoon I could observe the Swan -vs- Goose chase. But now on to the Islay Blogging roundup, what have the blogs been writing about Islay, Jura and Colonsay this week?

Having mentioned birds in my opening paragraph I think I should continue with the birdwatching:

The aforementioned Islay Birds blog discusses the fact that what might be common in one place might be considered rare in another. There were Geese roosting through the day as well as the latest geese count numbers. James had a few interesting sightings and his daughter a tale to tell.

John Islay Birder Armitage is on ‘holiday’, but still birdwatching in his spare time. Jeremy Hastings writes of Long Tailed Ducks and Sun later with Golden Eagle. He also reports of a Crazy week in his Islay Nature Report 8 March.

Ron is back from his Islay Winter Trip 2009 and promises a full travel report for later. He also has his thoughts about the fact that the new £21 million Islay ferry will not fit Port Ellen and predicts the end of Port Ellen as a ferry terminal. The Scottish Hotel Award for the Harbour Inn is also a topic on his blog.

A variety of topics is covered in other blogs: Rhiannon has pictures and paintings of her favourite places in Scotland, which includes Islay. There was a geology student's visit to Islay and Ollie Bray dug out an old map of Islay on the NLS website. The BigLorryBlog has a great entry about Mundell's lorries and some custom designs (anyone know if they still have the Scania?). The Wooden Boat Builder Will Paddle For Whisky.

Now how about some pictures? Fey Finlaggan - Islay appears in Foto’s That Don’t Fit. On Islay Sea Shipping Elliott has pictures of the M.V Hebridean Isles and of the M.V Hamnavoe on her first journey through the Sound of Islay.

Mark's Islay Photography Gallery is on a Feeding Frenzy. There is more Islay Snowfall, although that should hopefully soon make way for more Daffodils & Snowdrops as spring is arriving. After a break Ewan Morgan's Islay Photos is back in action as well, he visits the Bruichladdich Distillery Shop with a display of the PC7. There are lots of cask hoops but also a fine Kilchoman Panorama.

Mirko Herzner's latest offering is Islay's natural beauty (7), but he also says Row, row, row your Boat... However, Photogenic Scotland offers us a Sunrise over the Sound of Islay as well as Another Islay Sunrise. Unfortunately they only got to see Jura in Weather.

The Bruichladdich Blog mentioned Arte Geo 360 last week, the same is also picked up in Germany under 360° - GEO Reportage: Das Whisky-Geheimnis von Islay on WHISKYFANBLOG.DE. Tom of the ardblog picks up an Ardbeg Uigeadail Tasting mit Jim Murray video (video is in English, don't worry about the German blog if you don't speak German).

The Colonsay Brewery has a new customer and discovers they can't really count. As long as they can make good beer...

On the education front andywallis and islayian discover that there is a new discussion area for Wikispaces, quickly implement it and ask the question if teachers should have ‘real world’ experience (For more also look at the Education2020 wiki in general).

With that I'm going to close for today, I have a very busy day and week ahead and need an early night. For the bigger picture try the Scottish Roundup, this week with Dunblane Survivors Are Normal People Shock Horror. Good night!
