Islay Blogging Roundup #90
That's the first week of September over already, well, certainly the weather doesn't seem to have changed too much, on Islay and elsewhere. The rain seems to have gotten a bit colder, but that's about it, no Indian summer just yet. Enough of the weather, back to the blogs, this week's Islay blogging roundup. What have the blogs been writing about Islay this week?
Let me start with the birdwatching and wildlife: They are not due for another month or so, yet I've found the first mention of the winter geese on a blog. A blog entry about a visit to Reykjavík though. Not sure when they are due to pass Iceland, they don't seem to be there yet.
On the Islay Birds blog there's a summary of the weather in August (in very short: wet) and a picture of a Spotted Redshank. Every once in a while when on the Islay Birds blog I remember to click the link for Stacey in Antarctica (who used to work on Oronsay), some fantastic pictures there again: Some great winter pictures and the Seals of Bird Island.
John Islay Birder Armitage has looked at the recorded numbers of Greylag Geese and went out for some survey work. Not much birdwatching from Jeremy Hastings, but a green rant!!! climate change....
Enough birdwatching, on to the whisky:
Islay single malt whisky is famous all over the world, the Tasty Tasty Whisky: Dramfest Islay!! took place in Wellington, New Zealand. A Scandinavian blog (Norwegian may be?) simply called SingleMalt tastes a few Islay malts including Caol Ila 12, Laphroaig QC and Supernova.
On the Bruichladdich Blog we find Classical Beauty and Truth Stranger then Fiction. Over in Germany Jörg points out two whisky collector websites, one of which is about an Islay distillery: Die Seiten der Whisky-Sammler: Arrancollector.de und Laphroaigcollector.com. Takeshi Mogi in Japan brings us various Bowmore videos including The Journey, which pretty much everyone in the whisky blogs seems to have linked to. The ardblog not surprisingly mentions the Neuer Corryvreckan ab 21.9.09.
John Hansell publishes a press release New: Bowmore “Tempest”. Jonte from Sweden writes about Islay malts they tasted in Islaytrip - The Preludium.
In other news Ron on the Islay Weblog links to Two new Islay Accommodation Websites and has Three Loch Gruinart Islay Panorama Images. IslayIan writes about and publishes his presentation for LeadMeet. Elliott of Islay Sea Shipping brings us news about the M.V Victress.
You want Islay pictures? I give you Islay pictures: On Michael Schobert's photoblog we find Give me a break, a White Beauty on Jura and Waves in Machir Bay. On Mark Unsworth's Islay Photography Gallery my favourites this week are Waiting for Maturity, Sunburst at Saligo and Sunset at Crois Mhor. On Ron's Picture Blog we find Geese at Loch Gruinart and a Pony at Easter Ellister Farm. And finally from my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll have to pick the Sunny April Morning in Port Charlotte and the October Morning at Kilchoman Beach, Machir Bay, Isle of Islay.
Last but not least a bit of Twitter. In the Late Reminder Islay Book Festival entry I had mentioned Lin Anderson promising to update us from Islay via Twitter. She kept her word, telling us (among other things) of a fab island with fab people, great stories by Lord George Robertson and the home baking on Islay.
With that I close for today, but not without the traditional reference to the Scottish Roundup, this week with More on Megrahi #2. Good night, have a great week!
