Friday Islay Picture #128 - Coast North of Gortantaoid

Friday Islay Picture in stencil

From (pop culture) fiction back to the real world, to wild nature on Islay. The northern coast around Bholsa is among the remotest and wildest parts of Islay's long coastline. Unless you obtain permission to drive to Gortantaoid (and have a 4x4, the track is pretty rough) it's already a fairly long walk in from Killinallan just to reach the ‘starting point’ of this week's Friday Islay picture, the view from Gortantaoid to Mala Bholsa:

Picture of a view along a wild coastline, various low cliffs and a conical shaped hill at the end

This picture was taken during the Killinallan Walk of WalkIslay 2007, a walk I repeated a few months later with my parents. If all goes to plan my sister will join me for a holiday on Islay next year, during which I intend to take her on this walk as well. For a more detailed view of the area you have to go further, I've got some pictures online in the Bholsa and Rhuvaal walk page from 2006.

That's all for this evening, as usual I will post the larger version (larger as in more than twice as big) on the Islay Pictures photoblog on Saturday morning. Have a great (Thanksgiving if you're American) weekend!
