Islay Blogging Roundup #101

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

The difficult first roundup after the jubilee Islay Blogging Roundup #100 last week. With Christmas now approaching rapidly (at least for some today is Saint Nicholas Day) I guess blogging will slow down over the next few weeks. But for now back to Islay and Jura in the blogs this week:

Let me start with the whisky this week, from the Netherlands Onversneden writes about Kilchoman. I can't really read it, but I think he's not really convinced yet but thinks with the autumn release they are on the right way. The Bruichladdich Blog is very pleased with a A Vintage Year and informs us Orpheus Bottled Today. Tom of the ardblog also has an Octomore update, but isn't convinced of the ‘Octomore 2.2’ name as it reminds him of computer program updates.

Review on the Rocks does just that and reviews the 10 year LAPHROAIG Scotch Whiskey. If you work in advertising and still need a present for a CEO, Gift ideas for advertising people on your list might be helpful as they recommend two Laphroaigs for said CEO. Tasting Notes: Bowmore Claret can be found at the Home of Whisky from Germany. The WhiskyHost has some Sweet peaty treats.

Over on Jura (or from whereever in the world his travels take him) Richard Paterson asks Fancy living on Jura and tasting the whiskies for free? If that doesn't get you interested he also brings Jura Lodge shows off the luxury.

On the birdwatching side Ian is back on the Islay Birds blog with the weather stats for November, this year is rather wet, as was the holiday in England. But enough of the weather, there were Geese counts as well and the week ends with a picture of 25 Pale bellied Brent Geese. John Islay Birder Armitage had A good winter's birding day! Earlier in the week he provided an update on the BTO Atlas survey and wrote about his new blog plans.

Ron goes nostalgic in C&E Roys Celtic House Bowmore Islay and finds a video where a Calmac Crew Goes Mad(ness) (not the Islay crew though). I think I might have mentioned the Team Wiggle Tandem in a previous roundup, this week there's a portrait of Jez Hastings in Team Wiggle Tandem: Cycling On The Outer Edge…….

Elliott has news about the Barley Boat Discharge shoot, but that didn't stop the Barley Boat coming in. I missed this last week, but Stacey in Antarctica (who used to work on Oronsay) also had a jubilee: One year later... with some great pictures.

From the Islay Ferry ... kicks off the Islay pictures today, followed by a Creel Close Up. Ron has been busy on his picture blog this week, among others with the Sound of Islay and Paps of Jura as well as The Low Road between Port Ellen and Bowmore.

On Mark Unsworth's Islay Photography Gallery my favourites this week were Abhaimn Ghil River Mouth, Sea Stacks, The Oa and Lower Killeyan. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for Walkers at Killinallan Point, Mala Bholsa from Killinallan Point and of course the Hazy Sunset over Islay, seen from Ferry.

I think that's it, the journey to number 200 is under way. As you will have come to expect before I close the reference to the Scottish Roundup, this week with Out with the old and in with the new…
