Islay Blogging Roundup #124

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

After a quite pleasant Bank Holiday Sunday at the Kennet & Avon Canal today is rather grey and boring. A good opportunity to write a bumper Islay blogging roundup before it takes a break while I'm away for my summer holiday on Islay (where else?). It won't come as a surprise that the Islay Festival features in many blogs this week, so let me start with just that:

The Bruichladdich Blog of course covers their open day in Another Cracking Festival Day and Festival 2010. The guys from Bagging Scotland visited for a few days with their Baggin’ Waggon and write up their thoughts on food and drink in Wherever Islay my hat…part 1. All the way from Kentucky came musician Brigid Kaelin who in The Red Accordion Diaries writes about her experiences: Islay, Scotland. and Whisky, Islay, Laphroaig specifically.

A regular at the festival are the guys from caskstrength.net - whisky blog, who continued their reporting with Islay Feis Ile 2010 Day Two- Stick It In Ya Bloodtub..., Islay Feis Ile 2010 Day Three - Everyone's Got A Caol Ila and Islay Feis Ile - bottlings round up. I had mentioned Tony and Michelle's 2010 Islay Festival Blog | Feis Ile with Arby last week, they continued this week with lots of very detailed and excellent accounts:

Told you this was going to be a bumper roundup, didn't I? (Yes you did. Now get on with the rest. Ed.)

David of Angling and Dramming continued his account with Three Finlaggan Brownies on the LTD Sedge, Islay Fishing Competitions Feis Ile 2010, Changing Patterns and The Paps and Islay PB Brownie. Mike and Jacqueline post their updates on Oor Alba Blog, this year's updates include Drive frae Wishaw, Ferry tae Islay, Church in Kilmeney, Bruichladdich Open Day, Shopping, Laphroaig, The Oa and Monument, Eilean Dhiura and Friday night 8:45PM entry.

The Germans also dropped in, one blog entry I spotted is Schottlandtrip-Blog » The Sturmification of Scotland – Teil 2. Lots of nice pictures of both distilleries and wildlife in here.

Of course Jura also joined in, as Richard The Nose Paterson details in Feis Ile 2010 – fun times at Jura. They also have pictures with Feis Ile on Jura and What awaits the Feis Ile travellers on Jura Picture of the Day.

If you prefer to listen rather than read just head over to Mark at Whiskycast (also check the WhiskyCast Archives), episodes 254 to at least 263 (the latest published as of writing this) all come directly from Islay.

If all that isn't enough you can try some other summaries with Following Feis Ile 2010 on the Scotch Hobbyist’s Blog and Islay Festival 2010 Roundup on Ron's Islay Weblog.

Anything else? Of course. Still whisky related is the Port Charlotte PC6 – Review, but Grounds for concern...: Glasgow Islay; Scotland moves us on to football. I think Scottish Ultra 2010: Resumen is a review or summary of the event on the Spanish blog writing about the Scottish Ultra on Islay and Jura. And needled mentions leaving for Islay and Jura in fat rascals! competition! adventure!, hopefully a report to follow.

At first glance There’s only one ‘d’ in ‘Cladach’ on Writes of Way is a strange title for a great write up of a walk. It'll all make sense once you get to the end though. Oh, and I've got the Walking on Jura, Islay and Colonsay book now, time permitting I'll post a review this week before I leave for Islay.

There was also quite a lot of bird- and other wildlife watching again: On the Islay Birds blog we find a picture of a Crossbill and on Sunday various birds were spotted on the Rinns. Earlier in the week Magpies and Ospreys were reported. John Islay Birder Armitage has now returned to Islay (and still doesn't need dresses in size 34). From a birdwatching perspective he ponders migration and the local birding. The Islay Natural History Trust blog continues to be fed by the contributors, this week included Mute Swan Cygnets, an update on Drinker moths and Carnivorous Butterwort.

Now to some pictures: Ron posted My Favourite Tree on Islay (as in his, not mine). My favourites on Mark's Islay Photography Gallery this time were Warehouse 1 Kilchoman, Outside the filling store and Ardbeg Rollercoaster. A note of what's to come on the British Landscapes Photography blog with Isle of Arran, Kintyre and Islay. Might be worth watching this blog and his gallery.

That I think is it for this week, hopefully haven't forgotten or missed too much. Of course there's still the Scottish Roundup, this week with David Laws, Eurovision, Peers and stuff. With that the Islay Blogging Roundup will take a break until some time towards the end of June, once I'm back from Islay and had a chance to catch up. But I'm not gone just yet, still a few other postings to come over the next few days.
