Quick Islay Whisky Links

Islay Whisky News & Links in stencil

Let's see, when did I have the last edition of Islay whisky links? Can it really have been the Quick Islay Whisky Links from the 1st of May? It really seems to be, although there were whisky related entries like Ralfy's Tour of Kilchoman Islay Distillery and The Islay loot June 2010 (which has quite a few bottles in it) on my Posterous account. Let me see what I have for you today:

The first one isn't strictly speaking an Islay whisky only link, but the picture used to illustrate it is from Islay and I think quite a few people on Islay are impacted by it in a way: Whisky company rolls out the barrels to top up leaking pension fund writes the Guardian, the ‘whisky company’ (they do quite a bit more than just whisky) in question is Diageo. As they of course own Lagavulin, Caol Ila and the Port Ellen Maltings on Islay there are quite a few current and former employees who might find this interesting. Or not as it is a rather complicated yet boring accounting matter.

I still need to dig around in the collection a bit, but I thought the Laphroaig lovers and in particular the laphroaig collector (in the unlikely event he hasn't seen them yet) will be interested in this: On the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (now that's a mouthful…) website I've found the Site Record for Islay, Laphroaig Distillery Textcontribution. While a lot is only available in the ‘Search Room’, there are 47 digital images available, most of them old drawings and plans.

As I've said, I need to do more digging on the site, but just a quick look let me find the Site Record for Islay, Bruichladdich Distillery Details, so there's something for the Bruichladdich fans as well. I suspect you'll find something for the other distilleries as well…

On to Ardbeg, where a limited edition (just over 200 bottles, signed by Lord Robertson) will go on sale soon, with the proceeds to be donated to the veteran's charity Erskine. You can find reports on Whisky Galore for Lord Robertson on Islay and Veterans to benefit from whisky sales, the latter with picture.

I think I'll close with that for today, pour myself a wee dram of Islay single malt and say good night.
