Islay in RCAHMS flickr collection
After two videos in a row it's time for a few Islay pictures again. Some slightly unusual pictures, as some of the pictures you probably won't find in a normal collection. The pictures are from the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) collection on flickr.
You can find almost 200 (as of writing this) pictures from Islay in all the pictures tagged ‘islay’ in the RCAHMS photostream. As far as I can tell the vast majority seems to have been taken in 2004, despite 2011 copyright notice placed on to the picture. One picture which perfectly illustrates this is this picture of the Kilchoman Old Parish Church. Anyone who's been to Kilchoman over the last few years will know that this definitely wasn't taken in 2011…
The pictures mainly cover various churches on Islay as well as the WW II radar stations at Saligo and Kilchiaran. Some derelict buildings and long crumbled floors. But there's also a bird house in the form of a church, I wonder if that still exists?
