WalkIslay 2012 Islay Walking Week Teaser

Islay Events written in stencil

So, how many of you had getting out walking more in their New Year in their New Year's resolutions? And how many of you are waiting for an update on WalkIslay 2012, this year's edition of the Islay walking week? Well, I've got good news for you:

The 2012 programme is currently being finalised and should hopefully be available within the next week or so. The first walk will take place on Saturday 14/Apr/2012, the last walk is scheduled for Friday 20/Apr/2012. As usual there will be variety of walks, from short and easy walks over easy ground to long and strenous walk over rough terrain.

Without giving too much away before the full programme is finalised, some of the places likely to be visited include: Two of Islay's lighthouses, some of Islay's higher hills (not that Islay's hills are particularly high, but you might even make it to the top of Islay) and one of Islay's finest yet comparably seldom visited beaches. There will also be (walking) excursions to Islay's neighbours, namely Jura and Colonsay. After two visits in a row to Oronsay there won't be a walk across The Strand this time, instead there are plans to visit parts of Colonsay the walking week hasn't been to yet. Outside of the walking there will also be some socialising, including music in the Port Charlotte Hotel and an informal buffet at Ballygrant Hall.

I hope this got you interested enough to start looking for your walking socks and walking boots…
