Four Mixed Islay Links

Islay Links in stencil

Yes, it's time for one of those entries again, a quick collection of various Islay related links I hope you might find interesting. After all that's how blogging (allegedly) started, listing links people discovered on their journey through the interweb. So here we go, four of them I came across recently:

Just yesterday I mentioned Al Mennie successfully completing his challenge when today I came across another one: May be not as spectacular as paddling about the North Channel, but then again Richard Bradwell completed his challenge without any training. He cycled 500 miles from Islay to Newton Solney as the Burton Mail reports in Two-wheel trekker beats pain to generate £33,000.

I suspect all my Dutch readers will already know most or even everything De Telegraaf writes in Islay: Whisky, vogels en forellen, but then again there might be a few first time visitors coming across this page.

Justin Ruthven-Tyers recent book launch ‘Phoenix From the Ashes: The Boat that Rebuilt Our Lives’ received quite a lot of media coverage, last week The Independent joined in with The boat that set us free.

And finally a new Islay single malt whisky. Unfortunately duty free only, so someone visiting me by plane will have to bring me one. The whisky in question is the about to be launched Laphroaig PX Cask. The PX comes from is being the “first Laphroaig expression to be matured in Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks, in addition to American oak and quarter casks”. Hopefully I can get my hands on one soon…
