New Islay Video - Machir Bay from the Air

Islay on Video written in stencil

Sorry, no Islay blogging roundup tonight. I was busy with something else for most of today. Some of you might remember the references to the DJI Phantom Quadcopter with GoPro Hero2 videos from the last couple of months. Of course I took the quadcopter with me for my recent visit to Islay. On the very last day the weather was finally calm enough to fly it. Here is the result from my first two flights on Islay, best watched in 720p/HD:

YouTube: Machir Bay, Islay, with a DJI Phantom Quadcopter

The video starts at the end of the car park, close to burn running through the dunes. I thought this was an obvious starting point. Across the dunes we fly to the beach, past the wreck (visible at low tide only, also only if not covered by sand) and over the incoming waves. The flight takes us across the beach in several passes, hopefully providing you with some enjoyable views. We finish by flying out towards the setting sun.

I hope you've enjoyed the video, hopefully the flaws experts will be able to point out easily aren't too distracting. I'm just happy that I was able to fly and film in the first place, not that easy in place like Islay, almost always windy. Provided I get some calm weather again during my next visit in June I'm hoping to film Saligo Bay, Laphroaig (loch, distillery, FOL field, possibly also the water source) and Finlaggan to name a few. May be not all will be possible during my next visit, but I'll give it my best shot.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
