Islay Blogging Roundup #259

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

That's a busy baking weekend almost over for me, made four different things this weekend. Poppy seed rolls (since eaten), fruit bread, my standard three flour and almonds bread and finally an experiment, a whisky (with Laphroaig Islay single malt) and hazel- and walnuts bread. I'll report about how it turned out later. Well, if it turns out nice. But enough of my baking, now on to the real topic at hand, the Islay, Colonsay and Gigha mentions in the blogs this week:

Let's start with some whisky this time: Whisky, Empirically writes Classic Coal: Caol Ila 12. In Germany the Whiskyfanblog announces Laphroaig On Tour mit dem Whiskykoch. Whiskynotes from Belgium tastes the Jura 1988 (Mo Òr), the Bowmore 1995 (Whisky-Fässle) and the Bunnahabhain 25 years. Ron has a picture of the Still Game Valinch at Bruichladdich Distillery.

On to the summer visits. A flower girl catches A blink of summer sun among other places on Islay. Steve is sailing in Scotland at the moment, Carrickfergus to Port Ellen, Port Ellen to Colonsay...... and Colonsay to Mull... describe his time around Islay and Colonsay, some nice pictures as well. On a similar route is Andreas from Germany with the SY Slisand, we can read and see his experiences in Islay, Oban and Richtung Norden. A group from Germany visited Islay and Skye, written up in Whisky, Schafe und jede Menge Gegend.

Regular visitor Gordon Home reports from his visit in Summer 2013 Visit Pt.1, Summer 2013 Visit Pt.2 and Summer 2013 Visit Part Deux + 1…….. As expected HAUNTSOFMYANCESTORS continued with their entries from Islay: Islay 2 Saturday, Islay 3 Sunday and Road to Glasgow Monday describe their time on Islay.

Douglas Wilcox continues from his visit to Gigha with The great rock wall of Cnoc Loisgte, Gigha, Trouble at the mill on Gigha, Better Days #15, on Gigha, End of a long day om Gigha and Light my fire, on Gigha. Well worth a read. Douglas blog is one of my favourites, always great pictures and interesting reading.

The Islay Energy Trust has both good and sad news: Planning success – another hurdle cleared! and Farewell to Andy. The Islay History blog in the meantime entertains us with By Islay's Shores: a Victorian ballad. There were also some lengthy updates from the Dower House: Visitors at the Dower House! and Hellos and Goodbyes. A slightly unusual entry from a roofing company: New louvre window on the steeple of the Round Church, Islay. Derek Robertson combines an Islay holiday with an education project in From The Atlantic Ocean To Glow

From Colonsay, the Island at the Edge we read Cassidy and Sundance come to visit!

The birdwatching and wildlife: On the Islay Birds blog we read about Red Grouse on the Glorious Twelfth, Ian heading to Rutland and Emily's sightings on The Oa as well as various sightings at Gruinart. The INHT blog reports of Record breakers at the centre! and More Record Breakers at the Centre. There's also the report from the Ramble at Killinallan, 12th August 2013.

And finally the pictures, although some were already in the entries mentioned earlier. Laura Thorburn documents her visit in A dark and mysterious place......islay with many nice pictures. Thomas is looking back to this time last year in Letztes Jahr im August auf Islay and Der Himmel auf Erden? Am 17.08.2012 in Bunnahabhain!. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked the Panorama of Bàgh an Dà Dhoruis, the Fishing boat and the Rhinns of Islay lighthouse and Bàgh an Dà Dhoruis and the north coast of Islay.

That's all for this week, for the bigger picture head over to the Scottish Roundup, this week with Summer’s end? Good night!
