Islay Blogging Roundup #278

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

After a beautiful frosty morning and sunrise in Aldermaston Wharf it turned grey and damp fairly quickly in West Berkshire today, so I spent the majority of the day doing some long overdue admin. Having made good progress with it it's now time for something more enjoyable, taking a look at what the blogs have been writing about Islay this week:

To start with a bit of Islay (and Jura) whisky: A Finnish blog (writing in English) tastes two Bruichladdichs in Octomore 6.2. – the one that almost got away! and Port Charlotte PC11 Eòrna Na H-Alba. On The Vass we find a Whisky Review: @Bunnahabhain 40 Years Old. Distilled Reflections cover the By The Glass Show: Ardbeg Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Bozzy reviews the Ardbeg Supernova (2009 release)… Also a Swedish blog writes about the Jura Superstition.

Some Islay visits: Chris and Michaela spent a night on Islay and Chris writes down his impressions in They wave at you, sometimes with gritted teeth…. J went on A plane trip and a bike ride, Inner Hebrides (Islay, Colonsay and Kerrera). A virtual visit from Anu in her postcard corner to Carraig Fhada Lighthouse, Islay, Scotland. Susan Buckman had New Year in Islay. Kind of a whisky post, but more a visit, so it goes here: Distillery Tour: Bruichladdich.

On the Dower House blog a New Year at The Dower House begins. The Islay and Jura Timebank announces the Grey Matters group while on the Our Learning Blog of Port Ellen Primary we can read about P6/7's new topic and P4/5 Social Enterprise Business. On an Islay kitchen another recipe, this time for a Malt loaf.

Of course there was birdwatching and wildlife, as usual led by the Islay Birds blog, where we find Hen Harriers and Golden Plovers, a variety of sightings from around Islay and Bob's count from Loch Indaal. The INHT blog takes another look back with Wild flowers in 2013. John Armitage is Back on line! and had a Routine , but enjoyable day.

To close as usual the pictures: Patrick has some nice shots of Islay and Jura from the mainland, Sunset from Keils, Coffee and duck eggs and Last of the sunset. On Islay Wildscapes the recent ‘flood’ of pictures finished with Port Ellen Winter Sunrise and Caledonian MacBrayne: Finlaggan, Port Ellen to Kennacraig. Hopefuly more to come again soon. Ron shares a sunset over Loch Gorm and landscape on the Oa. On his main blog Ron also has Views from Lower Killeyan Islay. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked McArthur’s Head lighthouse from the shore, Waves in Saligo Bay and The Paps of Jura from Kilslevan, Isle of Islay.

And that's it for this week, more next week. Good night.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
