Islay Blogging Roundup #300

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Made it. After the Friday Islay picture #333 on Friday here is the 300th Islay blogging roundup. It all started in September 2007 with Some Kind of Islay Blogging Roundup, almost seven years later it's still going. I hope my readers are still enjoying it as well and find interesting blogs (or just blog entries) through it, after all that's the whole idea of it. With that on to the Islay blog mentions this week:

Neil Gordon-Orr receives two mentions for two different blogs this week: Regular readers will already be familiar with this Islay History blog, where this week he has A Bowmore War Grave and First World War Dead on Islay Memorials. In addition to that Neil is also a runner on his Go Feet blog has started a mini series about running on Islay. The first two entries are Running Islay (1) - Bridgend Woods (6.5k) and Running Islay (2): Bowmore to Gartbreck (8k). Looking forward to more!

Pete and Lindsey are sailing around Britain with the Sally of Hamble, recently they sailed Loch Craignish to Jura, Jura to West Loch Tarbert and West Loch Tarbert to Islay.

Gordon Homer has returned home now, his updates from last week are Islay Visit Part XXXVII – A wet weekend, Islay Visits Part XXXVII – Nice walk in the Woods, Islay Visits Part XXXVII – A Tale of Two Distilleries….. and Islay Visits Part XXXVII – Figures !

Two Islay distillery visits: The Malt Impostor brings us An Impostor Abroad: Stephen visits Kilchoman. Great Drams has something I think I missed earlier: A special Laphroaig water to whisky experience Islay, 2014 (also Islay accommodation special: Ballygrant Inn). Kind of related, The Whisky Obsession is on 7 days is Islay, so far reporting with 7 days in Islay, days 1 & 2. Rocky Mountain Hi just says Cheers. (with a wee dram of Laphroaig)

Becky went walking from Bunnahabhain to Bolsa. At long last….. there are some good news from the Islay Energy Trust. The Dower House crew now have A clean, rat free, place to sleep! Ron writes about Islay's August Sports Weekend (although the Ride of the Falling Rain turned out mostly sunny).

On to the birdwatching and wildlife: The Islay Birds blog has an update from the Bird Nerds evening, news about the Islay stand at the British Birdfair and Nigel's sighting (as well as the weather stats). The INHT blog has news from the Butterfly Fun Day 2014 while John Armitage writes about Birds on the move! 1.8.2014. The RSPB Islay blog has a variety of posts including Moths!, Some of our… (800 sheep, that is) and apparently It'll soon be christmas…

To close as usual now the pictures: James Collett has been to Glenastle Loch. And from my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked Arriving at the Singing Sands, Carraig Fhada lighthouse and Port Ellen buoy and The “Opera House Rocks”, Isle of Islay.

That's all for this week and the 300th edition of the Islay blogging roundup, I hope you found something interesting. Time for a celebratory wee dram of Islay single malt. Or two…

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
