Islay on TV and Radio

Most of the links you find here are for the written words and still pictures, today I'll bring you information of some spoken word and moving pictures about Islay. In other words, Islay on television and radio:

As I don't have a television myself I'll start with the radio: On Friday the 15th of September at 15:00hrs (UK time) you should tune your radio to BBC Radio 4 and listen to Clare Balding's Ramblings:

Clare Balding visits Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland, famous for spectacular scenery, walks and distilleries. Clare is joined by a group of locals born and bred in the area.

(I'm told the locals are Iain Macpherson and Lindy walking out past past Killinallan to Gortantaoid)

Also on Friday the 15th of September Islay will be on television, although I believe it will only be available in Scotland, BBC Scotland Television to be precise. A one-hour special of Beechgrove Garden will report from Islay:

In a one-hour special, the Beechgrove team uniquely document horticultural life on the island of Islay. Two stunning community gardens in Port Charlotte and Bridgend provide the focus for the visit that becomes an emotional journey for Jim as he returns to the island where he spent much of his working life. Jim reminisces on gardening on Islay and shares a dram and his squeeze box with the locals.

Carole, Lesley and Carolyn will also be sampling gardening life on Islay, visiting great gardens and help solve some local gardening problems.

One of the gardens was created with the help of the pupils from the Port Charlotte Primary School, you can read more about it in the Beechgrove Garden entry at the Port Charlotte Primary School Blog.

And finally some TV I could, at least theoretically, watch: Internet TV. Some people are quite excited about it, I'm not really convinced of singlemalt.tv being that useful for me. While Islay should expect several mentions this is a channel focusing on single malt whiskies, meaning Islay will have to share the time with all the other whiskies and presumably events and reports from all over the world. After all this is a business and plans to film all over the world.
