Friday Islay Picture (47)

After a nice hot chocolate earlier followed by a nice wee dram of Laphroaig Quarter Cask I now feel sufficiently relaxed enough to move on to this evening's Islay blogging. As it is Friday evening this obviously means the Friday Islay Picture. I think it's been a while since I last posted a portrait format picture, but this view really lends itself to the format: The Rinns of Islay Lighthouse on Orsay, seen from the shore in Port Wemyss.
Again there is a reason why I picked this picture: Earlier today I was looking through the pictures of Flickr user calum57. I'm not sure what exactly he does for a living, but it seems to be related to the Northern Lighthouse Board and involves flying to lighthouses with a helicopter. On these flights he takes some fantastic pictures of lighthouses, including the ones on or around Islay:
- To start with the one above, the Rinns of Islay lighthouse. Only this time it's the Rinns of Islay Lighthouse seen from the air, from the south, Portnahaven and Port Wemyss in the background. Ever wondered how it looks from the inside? Here's a view of the Rinns staircase.
- Moving to pretty much the other end of Islay we have McArthurs Head lighthouse (with a helicopter approaching). I think this view over the Sound of Islay with the Hebridean Isles and a NLB chopper was taken from the little pier/jetty below the lighthouse.
- Regular readers might remember that Dubh Artach lighthouse is occasionally visible from Islay. Here's a much closer look of Dubh Artach and another one of Dubh Artach lighthouse from above. Finally Dubh Artach with two people waiting to be picked up.
His other pictures are quite nice as well, you might just want to look through them. Not of Islay, but various other places (mainly lighthouses) around Scotland.
That's all for this evening. The weather forecast looks quite nice (although very cold) for most of the UK this weekend, have a great and sunny weekend, whereever you are and whatever your plans are!
