Islay Blogging Roundup #54

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

Another wet and windy evening, I think I'll have another wee dram of Octomore Islay single malt whisky later this evening. After a good start to the week the weather broke down later in the week and apparently another battering on its way. But back to this week, what have the blogs been writing about Islay in the first week of November?

Keeping with the weather theme Cozy Whiskies for Chilly Fall Days: Smoky Single Malts, which obviously mainly means Islay malts. Now I don't know if this was commissioned by Bruichladdich, but blankanvas has a gorgeous whisky packaging design by Marc Praquin (who has a very annoying website, so doesn't get a link).

The Bruichladdich X4 (also with an interesting bottle design) gets a mention, while the Bruichladdich Blog itself writes about New Cask Offers, New Octomore Futures and has a few pictures of the Helsinki Whisky Club at the distillery.

Tom returns to his roots at the ardblog with two entries about Ardbeg: The Ardbeg Uigeadail World Whisky 2009 and some thoughts and questions about the Ardbeg Mór II.

I've already mentioned it earlier this week in the Laphroaig Masterclass entry, but The Cartoonist also mentions our evening at the Laphroaig Masterclass.

Ron reports of some more basis work, namely the Bowmore Water Works. He also writes about the Argyll News Round-up Video and follows it up with a call for volunteers for some video reporting from Islay, For Argyll is Looking for You. He's also trying to help Christine Logan selling her mother's Henderson Bagpipes.

With Ian of the Islay Birds blog watching the birds on the Seychelles James is his more than able deputy. Well, unless it's bonfire night (what did the Canada Geese make of it?). Later in the week he reports of 4 Gadwall and also 2 Golden Eagles over Loch Gruinart.

John Islay Birder Armitage seems to be a bit jinxed with ‘technical tussles’, but has a lot to write about this weekend: wintering populations settling down, a lack of Slavonian Grebes after plenty of them previously and the so far fruitless search for a Rough legged Buzzard.

Bronwen's Life on Islay is keeping her Too busy to blog! She still finds the time though for a quick update about struggles with databases and Islay's success at the National Mod.

The previously mentioned Photogenic Scotland again has a few Islay pictures: Sunrise over Port Ellen - Islay, Bruichladdich (brook laddie) Islay and Saligo Bay - Islay. A nice picture of Lagavulin village on Mirko Herzner's Photoblog.

I think that's about it for this week. The Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture says Yes Obama can — but the SNP can’t as well as The pre-post-election special non-special (apparently there was so much good stuff in the blogs). And that's really it for this week. Time for that wee dram of Octomore. Good night!
