MV Clansman in the Sound of Islay

Islay News in stencil

While I'm quite busy with the promised Islay beach rugby picture album (I've now narrowed it down to 200 out of over 1,400) I didn't want to leave you without an Islay blog entry today. Quite a few of you will probably have heard of the current problems with the MV Clansman, Ron has written about it in Possible Ferry Problems for Islay Travellers, Douglas writes about it in Trouble in the Isles. What I can add are a few pictures I took Friday last week of her travelling through the Sound of Islay on the way to the shipyard for the necessary repairs:

They might not be the best pictures and you might wonder about the perspective, the reason is that I took them from the summit of Beinn an Oir on Jura. While I was enjoying the views from Jura's highest mountain I spotted a Calmac ferry approaching from the north, from the Oban direction. Of course I took a few pictures of her passing through the Sound of Islay, the next day Elliott of Islay Sea Shipping confirmed to me it was the MV Clansman. Here's a view of her passing Port Askaig:

That's all I have for today. Back to the Islay beach rugby pictures.
