The Islay Whisky Bible for Android

Islay Whisky News & Links in stencil

On Tuesday I brought something for the new (and old) Apple iPad owners, the Islay iPad Sleeve. Today it's time for the competition. This evening I've got something for the Android smartphone (and I assume also tablet) users, provided they are interested in Islay single malt whisky:

Many whisky drinkers will be familiar with Jim Murray's Whisky Bible and have one or more printed editions in their bookshelves. For many this won't change and they will continue with the printed edition, others will want to either complement or possibly even replace the printed book with a digital version, an app for their smartphone or tablet.

I'm not sure if this is the first ‘edition’ (it certainly is version 1.0), but you can now download the basic Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2012 from the Android Market. The free basic version doesn't give you any tasting notes though.

Now you can either splash out £12.99 for the Pro version with tasting notes for 4,500 whiskies from all over the world, or you can be frugal and just opt for the topic of this entry, the Whisky Bible 2012 (Islay). It costs only £1.39 it is “Comprised of over 500 whiskies from the Isle of Islay, Scotland, all of which have been tasted and rated by the world’s leading whisky writer, Jim Murray, this is a ‘must have’ app for fans of Islay whisky.”

While I have an Android smartphone I haven't installed the app, as I personally don't have a need for it. I know the ones I like and occasionally Mary at Bruichladdich offers me something to try and if I like it I buy it. Nevertheless I thought some of you might find it useful. If you buy it, can you share what you think of it?
