Islay Blogging Roundup #206

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

That's the first summer (well, kind of) weekend of the year coming to an end. Enjoyed the first dram on my fake balcony overlooking the canal. Didn't do an awful lot apart from creating my first star trails picture, something I hope to repeat on Islay at some point. Now to finish the week a quick look at the Islay mentions in the blogs:

The whisky: The Restaurant Guys try the Bruichladdich “Black Art” 1989 Islay Scotch Whisky while Slowdrink.de has Review: Islay-Session III. – Three SMWS-Ardbeg and Review: Islay-Session IV. – Three Recent Caol Ila and a 23 y.o. Longmorn to Warm-Up. Smoke on the Water from Finland (I've mention them before) tasted (at least I think that's what they did, can't read a thing of it) a Single Islay Malt 5 yo, Stanley P. Morrison Ltd. and a Bowmore 1972 16 yo, The Prestonfield. In his Islay Series #5: The Botanist Gin by Bruichladdich the Whisky Critic tastes the Islay gin. Whisky Notes from Belgium tries the Port Ellen 1983 (Silver Seal).

The education: The Our Learning Blog of Port Ellen primary had only topic this week, The Selfish Giant. We can read about P4/5's Selfish Giant play and The organisation of The Selfish Giant. The performance will be on the 29th of March, I hope it all goes well!

The entries that didn't fit anywhere: In the go Kailua Magazine interview with Annie Wood Cusick Annie has nice things to say about Islay where she grew up. If you're hungry try Colonsay Isle Cookies, named after Islay's neighbour.

The birds and the wildlife: The Islay Birds blog has a great picture of a Shelduck by James and more Wheatear sightings. Also more visitor reports and other sightings. The Islay Natural History Trust claims it's Springtime and shows some Early primroses. Also Peter Roberts reports on the Scottish Birdwatchers' Conference in Oban. John Armitage reports from his Return to Islay. 15.3.2012. and A sad outcome! And an old Undertones song comes to mind with today's entry: Here comes summer! 24.3.2012.

The pictures: Mark Unsworth's Image of the week is dramatic view from the Rhinns, on his photography gallery we find Daffodil 4. Ron has some of James' pictures on his blog with Venus and Jupiter from Saligo Bay. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I think I'll go for White Water in Saligo Bay, Small Breaking Waves on a Calm Sea and Sunny Day at the Singing Sands, Isle of Islay.

That's all for this week, time for bed. Not before the link to the Scottish Roundup for the bigger picture though, this week with Troon, Turing and Intolerance. Good night!
