Islay Pipe Band at the Worlds 2012

Islay Music in stencil

Those who follow me at @islayblog or those visiting the Islay fanpage on Facebook will be aware that the Islay Pipe Band has been quite busy again recently, competing in all the major Championships. In early July they played at the British Championships, in late July they went to Belfast for the European Championships and most recently competed in the World Championships in Glasgow last weekend. I'm not sure if there is a video from the European Championships (at least I haven't seen one), but there certainly is one from the Worlds:

Now for those who haven't seen the results, how did they fare at these two latest competitions?

At the European Championships they finished 2nd out of 14 in Grade 3A (scroll down to Grade 3A). They were only beaten by the (almost) unbeatable Police Service of Northern Ireland Pipes and Drums Band (who have won the Scottish, British and European Championships in Grade 3A this year).

At the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow they finished 9th out of 24 in Grade 3A (you know the drill, scroll down…), another very good result including two 4th places. Best European band in second place were, yes, you guessed it…

Congratulations to two great results again this year!
