Islay Blogging Roundup #277

Islay Blogging Roundup in stencil

The first weekend of 2014 and after the first Islay video for the year and the first Friday Islay picture for the year it's now time for the first Islay blogging roundup for 2014. Some 2013 entries will still sneak in as 2014 is only five days old, but here are the Islay related blogs and the Islay mentions in the blogs over the last week or so:

To start with a new blog: Hello! says Alice on her new An Islay Kitchen blog. The first recipe is for some very tasty looking Double BBQ Cheese Burgers with Bacon.

From the food to the Islay whisky, where the Whisky Advocate brings us Bruichladdich’s Duncan McGillivray — In 140 Or Less and Ansgar Speller shares her Octomore Comus 4.2 - Tasting Notes. Whisky for Everyone writes a dual entry, Distillery visit - Ardbeg / Have just tried - Ardbog. The Bruichladdich blog shares some only faintly whisky related news in First Lambs Born At Coull Farm. Scott Munro tastes the Caol Ila Natural Cask Strength - 59.3%. A German blog has the Laphproaig 10 Jahre im Test. Jordan Devereux looks back and writes about Scotland 2013: Jura and Bunnahabhain Distillery Tours.

From the Dower House we have the Happy New Year! Photo Update. and some sad news in Just a Note about Roland's Boat…. The Islay History blog shares some interesting stories about Otters and Otter Hunting on Islay.

It's still a few months away, but Moira is making Plans so that you can join in. I mentioned freekee thoughts before, this week we getDay 6, Islay, part 1, Day 6, Islay, part 2 and Day 6, Islay, part 3.

For the birdwatching and wildlife let's start with the ever reliable Islay Birds blog: The Fulmars came in and today the weather delivered. There were also thanks for 2013 contributions and Happy New Year wishes and birds. The INHT blog looks back at Moths in 2013.

To finish of course the pictures again: Meredith shares her Weekly Photo Challenge: Beginning and James Collett does just the same: Weekly Photo Challenge: Beginning. Tim Collier shows us some Islay Whisky pictures. Some great pictures on Islay Wildscapes again, Storm Surge: Port Charlotte, Storm Surge: Atlantic Breakers West Coast Islay, Killinallan Dunes and Beach and Approaching squall Loch Gruinart from Killinallan Point are among my favourites. Following on from his reports last week Gordon Homer shares his Christmas 2013 Visit Photographs. Ron shares a view of Yellow Rock Cottage on a calm day having earlier posted Scary Moments at Yellow Rock Islay, he also introduces Sixteen Great New Islay Panoramas. From my own Islay Pictures photoblog I've picked the Meadow Pipit on a fence, the Barnacle Geese from the new RSPB Gruinart hide and The last seconds of a sunset, Isle of Islay.

That's it for this week and the first Islay blogging roundup of 2014. Good night, if you're in the UK I hope you have a good week without flood and/or storm damage. The wind is howling around the house and the rain lashing against the windows as I write this.

Sharing and discussing. Opening up the discussion. Have your say:
